Do This in Memory of Me: Find Your Treasure

​Dearest Eucharistic Family, 
 
We celebrated my spiritual father, Saint Peter Julian Eymard’s feast day this past week. He is the spiritual father to the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, Sister Servants, and Lay Associates worldwide. We are blessed to find in God this holy saint who viewed all of life through the eyes of the Eucharist, the eyes of Heaven. Saint Peter Julian found a treasure of grace in the love of God manifested in the Blessed Sacrament.   
  
What does this mean for us?   
  
We could change our perspective.  
  
To see all things through the eyes of love transforms our humanity into divinity, a pathway of blessings. Saint Peter Julian reminds us in the above excerpt to prepare our minds. And this preparation is accomplished in the assurance of God being with us, caring for and loving us, knowing who we are.   
  
During our Holy Hour this week, the presiding priest shared a story to celebrate our feast day. It was of a 12-year-old girl who came to his parish dressed as a cat with ears and a tail. He started a conversation with her asking why she stopped in the Church. She had been drawn there to pray. Father continued the conversation and was prompted to ask why she was dressed like a cat? The little girl expressed that she was a cat in her past life. Father helped this precious child enter the mystery of God’s love. He shared with her that she was not a cat in her past life but was created perfectly in her mother’s womb and wonderfully made. The conversation went on with assurance of who this child was. She finally told this dear priest that no one had ever told her that before. Drawn to the Church, taken into the mystery, and comforted in love, a child is born in love.   
Acts of kindness will change the world one soul at a time. This dear priest helped this young girl to prepare her mind to receive God’s love. She found her treasure in Jesus as he explained to her that the Eucharist is the love she seeks.   
  
How blessed we are.  

​“You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works!” (Psalm 139:13)  

​A few remarkable, admirable memories of Saint Peter Julian come to my mind this week; there are many. One of the thoughts most dear was his dedication to our Blessed Mother, relying entirely on Our Lady to keep us in the beating heart of Christ. Saint Peter Julian prepared his mind with Mary; he prayed to her. The treasure of Mary’s love comforted him in the confidence of God’s will in every circumstance.   
  
Saint Peter Julian lived in an attentiveness to God’s presence. Jesus’ love was the underlying link to all he experienced. Our eternal salvation is paved to Zion now, according to God’s will and our consent to all that is waiting for us.   
  
Saint Peter Julian teaches us to pray and to prepare our minds through the Eucharistic Mystery. There is an unfolding of grace, a treasure in being open to change. God is with us, his love everlasting. The Incarnation of Christ in us prepares our minds.  

“He must increase; I must decrease.” (John 3:30)

​Saint Peter Julian carried Saint John’s Gospel with him. Perhaps his imitation of the beloved one helped him to die to self so as to live for our Savior. Saint Peter Julian is a saint to pray to, talk to, and listen to; by his teaching and many retreat notes, he takes us to the Eucharistic Mystery of God’s magnificent LOVE.
